OMNI Institute Award for Contributions to Evaluation
The “OMNI Institute Award for Contributions to Evaluation” recognizes individuals who advance the quality of program evaluation and research efforts in the state of Colorado. The recipients are determined by the OMNI Institute Board of Directors each year.

    OMNI Institute Award for Sociological Contribution in the Area of Public Policy
    University of Denver’s Department of Sociology selects a recipient for the OMNI Institute Award for Sociological Contribution in the Area of Public Policy. The Department of Sociology maintains a plaque which resides in the Sociology and Criminology Office which denotes each year’s recipients. OMNI Institute contributes $250 to the recipients.

  • 2012 - Katherine (Kate) Roberts for her senior thesis examining school reform politics and policy.
  • 2011 - Cameron Lewis for his senior thesis, "A Movement in Redesign:  The Status of Modern Cultural Based Student Organizations at a Predominantly White Institution"
  • 2010 - Esther Park for her senior thesis, "Gender, Delinquency, and Depression"
  • 2009 - Michelle Molinar-Dominguez for her senior thesis entitled "Understanding the Latina Juvenile Offender in Colorado"
  • 2008 - Meghan Colombin for work with "9 to 5" and drafting of an appendix for the Pay Equity Commission Report
  • 2007 - Emily Hungerford for many community activities, including work with Girls, Inc., DU Pride and Teach for America
  • 2006 - Lindsay L. VanGilder for work investigating prosecutorial discretion
  • 2005 - No graduate students in program this year
  • 2004 - Sharisa Joy Kochmeister for work with autistic families in the community
  • 2003 - Jessica Johnston for work at her internship at the Jefferson County Probation Department involving public policies toward sexual offending
  • 2002 - Jennifer (Karima) Lundquist for work with DU's "Project Bosnia" program

  • 2000 - Stacy Salomonsen-Sautel for work on the evaluation of the Domestic Violence Clinic at the Student Law Office
  • 1999 - Kristin Jean Schledorn for work on the Urban Court Managers Project
  • 1998 - Suzanne Marie Gonzales for work in internship with the Division of Criminal Justice Office of Research & Statistics
  • 1997 - Laura Ross Greiner for work on dissertation re the role of media in the creation of public issues
  • 1996 - Susanna Dusan Bozinovski for her research/writing on dissertation dealing with self-neglect among the elderly
  • 1995 - Susan Calhoun-Stuber for dissertation addressing the issue of women arrested for domestic violence
  • 1994 - Debra Charlotte Oldenettel for her paper on "The Legitimacy of Rights," as well as academic & community service record

    OMNI Research Award
    The “OMNI Research Award” was established in 1996 to honor a student in the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work who evidences exemplary understanding of, and commitment to, social work research. This award was initiated by and is funded by OMNI Institute. Selection of the recipient of the OMNI Award is made by the Graduate School of Social Work awards committee upon review of submitted papers. Submitted papers may originate from courses in the research sequence or from other required or elective courses. Submissions may address any or all of the following areas:
    Review, evaluation and synthesis of research literature relevant to a social work topic, Examination, proposal and/or employment of innovative research methods, and Establishment of links between research and practice Submissions are judged relative to the following criteria – relevance to social work practice, originality, depth of analysis, clarity, and excellence in writing. OMNI Institute contributes a $250 cash grant and an appropriate certificate to the recipient at the end each year.

  • 2009 - Jennifer Boggs' paper "A Program Evaluation of the Aspen Hollow Young Ranchers Program"
  • 2008 - Rachel Dolnick's paper "Social Support-Focused Interventions in Inpatient Psychiatry: a Program Evaluation"
  • 2007 - Michelle Brunner's paper "Exploring the Social-Emotional Functioning of Young Children in Families Who Have Experienced Homelessness"
  • 2006 - DeAnna Heimsoth's paper "Transracial Adoption in China: Expatriates living in China with adopted Chinese children"
  • 2005 - Molly Calhoun's paper "Holistic Personal Empowerment through Community Organizing: A Qualitative Research Study of Leaders within Metro Organizations for People"
  • 2004 – Kori Shaiman Krichiver's paper "A School-Based Mentoring Program: the Effect on Student Feelings About School Climate”
  • 2003 – Jennifer Eichberg's paper “Eating Disorders, Stages of Change, and Nutrition” and “Evaluation of Mental Health Status: Self-Report vs. Clinical Ratings”
