OMNI has extensive background in providing research on community health issues. Much of this work has been conducted in partnership with non-profit agencies and their surrounding communities, employing community-based participatory research and evaluation approaches. Projects within this center have included population-specific needs assessments and work on health issues such as STD and HIV prevention and tobacco control.
The Study of the Social and Cultural Determinants of Community Health content area
focuses on exploring root causes of social and public health issues. Topic areas of particular interest are those most likely to affect differentially vulnerable or special populations. These populations include, but are not limited, to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) communities, minority/ethnic populations and economically-impacted families residing in inner city neighborhoods. Projects also include the evaluation of statewide initiatives such as The Colorado Trust’s Community Indicator Project and Colorado Violence Prevention Initiative.
