Virginia Success Stories
As the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) State Opioid Response (SOR) research and evaluation partner, we've collected stories from across Virginia to highlight the progress made and lives changed since the beginning of SOR.
DBHDS began receiving SOR funding in 2018, which has enabled Virginia to lead the country in innovative approaches to prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery services for people struggling with substance use. These innovative approaches have contributed to successes such as parents regaining custody of their children, individuals seeking treatment after decades of substance use, and individuals giving back to their communities as Peer Recovery Specialists.
