Project Description
Since 2016, Omni has partnered with Virginia’s DBHDS to lead the State Epidemiological Outcomes Workgroup (SEOW). This cross-sector group includes representatives from public health, education, criminal justice, treatment organizations, and more—all working together to promote data-informed decision-making in behavioral health.
Omni’s role has spanned the facilitation, management, and strategic growth of the SEOW. Our early efforts focused on cultivating relationships across Virginia’s agencies, establishing trust, and executing the necessary data sharing and use agreements that enabled collaborative progress. This foundational work led to the development of the Virginia Social Indicator Summary (VASIS) Dashboard (vasis.org)—a central hub for state and local behavioral health data designed to break down silos and support data-driven planning across sectors.
As both developer and ongoing manager of the VASIS Dashboard, Omni has continuously adapted the platform to meet evolving user needs, including the addition of features like community snapshot reports that support local assessment efforts. Through thoughtful facilitation, we have guided the SEOW in identifying and agreeing on core indicators to monitor, and we continue to coordinate quarterly meetings, produce data-informed reports, and support strategic dissemination of findings.
These data products (hosted on the Virginia SEOW website virginiaseow.org) are grounded in input from SEOW members and used widely to inform needs assessments, prioritize resources, and shape programming. They include both in-depth reports and accessible data spotlights that help translate complex trends into meaningful insights for diverse audiences.
Omni’s success with Virginia’s SEOW has led to national recognition, including invitations to present at the National Prevention Network Conference and consult with other states seeking to revitalize their own SEOWs. This work exemplifies our commitment to equity-centered, actionable research and our belief in data’s power to drive positive change in behavioral health systems.
In 2025, the SEOW created a centralized repository to store and share data resources: the Virginia Data Finder. The finder is a tool for researchers, policymakers, CSBs, non-profit organizations, and community advocates that offers easy access to public and behavioral health data to inform their work and support their communities.
