Omni conducted a mixed-methods Healthy Food Access Assessment for Lake County to better understand the challenges residents face in accessing healthy, locally grown food and enrolling in SNAP. The approach included a review of existing food access resources, as well as key informant interviews, focus groups, and a community-wide survey. Together, these methods provided a comprehensive look at barriers within the local food system, drawing insights from both service providers and residents across the county.
The assessment process allowed Omni to identify key strengths and challenges in Lake County’s broader food system, using input gathered directly from the community. Based on these findings, Omni developed a series of recommendations to support a more equitable and effective system. These recommendations focused on improving SNAP access, increasing availability of locally grown foods, and strengthening the county’s ability to meet residents’ healthy food needs. Rooted in the voices of the community, the results offer a data-informed roadmap for local action to expand food access and equity.
