Project Objectives

  • Increase awareness among youth about the risks and warning signs of problem gaming and gambling.
  • Build protective factors by integrating education on media literacy, financial wellbeing, and healthy decision-making.
  • Equip facilitators with standardized, flexible curriculum tools to ensure consistent, engaging delivery across diverse educational settings.

Project Description

As Virginia builds capacity for problem gaming and gambling prevention, challenges have emerged in identifying youth-focused curricula that meet their Standards of Learning. As competition for classroom time reaches unprecedented levels, lengthy curricula options are unrealistic. Leveraging background research and identified strengths of existing curricula, Omni and a team from across the Virginia prevention workforce developed a curriculum (offered as either an in-person presentation or self-paced e-learning module) that would meet learning outcomes while remaining feasible for school-based implementation.

This standardized, facilitator-ready curriculum was tailored for high school and college audiences. Through a blend of interactive activities and flexible delivery formats, the curriculum equips young people with critical knowledge on various topics related to problem gaming and gambling, including:

  • Gaming and gambling background
  • Wellbeing impacts
  • Recognizing warning signs
  • Financial literacy
  • Media literacy
  • How to make positive changes

This work reflects Omni’s commitment to proactive, data-informed strategies that foster protective factors and support youth wellbeing across Virginia.

By developing a curriculum that's both engaging and grounded in real-world challenges, we’re helping young people build the knowledge and confidence they need to make informed choices and seek support when needed.
